Fermentation of biomass can produce biogas (methane). Methane (biogas) fermentation, also known as anaerobic digestion, is the process of biogas generation which under anaerobic environment microbial decomposition of organic matter, and its products are methane and fermentation residues (efficient organic fertilizer). Methane fermentation is one of the most important technologies of biomass conversion, it can not only effectively deal with organic waste, reduce the chemical oxygen demand (OD), as well as kill bacteria, reduce mosquitoes twin functions. In addition, biogas as a means of waste disposal, is not only can save energy, but also to produce high-quality fuel biogas and fertilizer. Strictly speaking, organic matter under certain conditions, the microbial conversion can be converted into biogas, but different molecular structure of matter, the existence of differences in time be converted utilization.

Biogas is a mixture of various gases, generally contains 50 to 70% of methane, carbon dioxide and a small amount of remaining nitrogen, hydrogen and hydrogen sulfide. Its characteristics similar to natural gas. In addition to the direct combustion of biogas for cooking, drying agricultural products, heating, lighting and welding endures, but also for the production of fuel internal combustion engines as well as methanol, formalin, carbon tetrachloride and other chemicals.
